
So... this kind of grossed me out for a split second because when anything oozes anything it's either white or clear... or at least a color far away from that of blood unless they're diseased or in some horror movi - Anyway! A hippo creates its own "sunscreen". They secrete a layer of red mucous from its pores called "blood sweat". Gross, right? Yeah. It's not blood nor sweat, but it protects the giant from the harmful rays of Mister Sunshine. It prevents sunburns and keeps the hippo nice and moist.
A hippo also walks along the bottoms of lakes or rivers.
I wish I could hold my breath underwater for 5 minutes...
